I have two handicaps - those of sex and race. I am a woman; and I have some Negro blood in my veins. As a result, I have been able to get heard through one door, which I thought would be closed forever.

Florence Price was an American composer and pianist. As the first African-American woman to gain recognition as a symphonic composer, Price's music reflects her cultural heritage and her commitment to breaking barriers. Her compositions are characterized by their lush harmonies and rhythmic vitality.
